My story is one about turning trials into triumphs and how to navigate the obstacles we face in life. We can do this by adjusting our perception, taking action, and having the will to follow through.

Understanding Addiction, Breaking the Stigma, and Overcoming Obstacles
A 2013 study by the American Psychiatric Association found an estimated 22.7 million Americans were in need of treatment for a substance use disorder that had occurred within that year. Of those people, only 2.5 million received the professional help needed for a chance at recovery.
Every year more than 70,000 people die nationally from overdose. These numbers are continuing to rise.
For a decade, I fell in with the 90% of people who needed help but did not receive it. Like many people, I was always afraid to admit that I was struggling with substance use because of the attached stigma and social consequences that came along with the labels.
Some of the topics include:
How language affects our peers and my personal experiences with stigma in both active addiction and recovery.
Pain avoidance and healthier ways to deal with tough emotions.
The relationship between trauma and substance use.
How to overcome all challenges in our lives using the blueprint of how I overcame my addiction to heroin.
